Elkhorn fund news

Ryan Stelzer, Peoples Bank Investment Center, and Jessica Berge, Peoples Bank marketing officer, 837 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, 723-4200, have both been elected to serve on the volunteer-based advisory board of the Elkhorn Fund.

The Elkhorn Fund is a locally directed endowment fund which raises money that is invested with a portion of the income earned available to grant to the community in any given year. It is a component of the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.

"I am excited to be part of the Elkhorn Fund," Stelzer said in a news release. "The dedicated advisory board members have done a great deal thus far getting the fund off the ground. I want to help move that effort forward to benefit the Elkhorn community."

"Through the fund, we will be able to direct grants to meet some very real needs now and help preserve funds for future giving," Berge said. "We have some steep fund-raising goals for 2008, but it is all in an effort to grant as much as possible to our community. It's an exciting time to be on board."

"We've worked hard to create this fund to help make Elkhorn a better community in which to live," said John Henderson, chairman of the advisory board.

"Adding new board members, like Ryan and Jessica, is a positive step toward preserving the inroads we've gained and adding new energy to the group."

Individuals, trusts, civic groups and organizations and businesses are encouraged to donate to the fund. The bigger it gets, the more they can grant to community projects. Because the fund is endowed, it is permanent, it will not dry up after a few years. There is a $20,000 per year challenge grant from Peoples Bank to match funds up to $100,000 over five years.
