Walworth County changes road salt mix

Be more careful on some Walworth County roads the rest of this winter.

Due to regional shortage of salt, the Walworth County Public Works Department announced Thursday that it will treat county trunk highways with a mixture of salt and sand.

The mixture, which is used and effective in other counties in the area, should help stretch the county's remaining salt supply, according to a department news release.

However, the salt-sand mixture does not melt snow and ice as quickly and roads may be more slippery in places. The county reminds drivers to slow down and use more caution during winter weather events.

Numbered state highways will still receive usual salt treatments, according to the department.
