Fontana landmark awaits return to lakefront

By Donna Lenz Wright/The Week

A Fontana landmark should return to public view this summer.

Summer Breeze is being stored at the Fontana Public Works Department.
Summer Breeze, the bronze sculpture of a windsurfer created and donated by Jay and Barb Brost, founder of Miniature Precision Components Inc. of Walworth, was removed without fanfare or ceremony over a year ago.

The sculpture was moved during construction of the new Fontana Beach House, which was completed this past summer.

Residents have been curious about its whereabouts, but the sculpture has been kept safe at the Fontana Public Works Building.

"Public works moved him to do work on the beach house," said Kelly Hayden, Fontana village administrator. "We know just where he is and there hasn't been any vandalism or damage--he's just simply waiting to be put back on the shore."

His new location hasn't been exactly determined, but it will be very near to the original proximity, Hayden says. But it won't happen until well after spring thaw.

"He's very very safe--safe and sound," she assured.
