Fire breaks out in Whitewater landmark

A fire early last Tuesday morning damaged the Landmark Building in downtown Whitewater.

Firefighters were called at 2:43 a.m. to the building at 204 W. Main St. The blaze was under control in about 20 minutes, according to emergency personnel on the scene.

The fire was contained to a single apartment.

The Whitewater Fire Department was assisted by the LaGrange Fire Department, the Whitewater Police Department, UW-Whitewater police and the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department.
