A team including an Elkhorn grandfather and his grandson will run at the starting gun of this season's Amazing Race 12 tonight, Nov. 4.
Donald Jerousek, 68, of Elkhorn, and his grandson, Nicolas Fulks, 23, a pilot living in San Juan, are now known as Team 7 and one of 11 teams to race over 50,000 miles around the world from Ireland to Croatia in 28 days trying to win $1 million.
They can't comment under the terms of their contract with CBS, Jerousek's wife, Sharon, said. The show's Web site says their personality differences will make for an interesting journey.
"Nicolas describes himself as reliable, competitive and goofy. He describes his teammate as rough around the edges and not too excepting of people who go against his advice."
Nicolas' traveling expertise is sure to help and, it is hoped, give them an advantage over the other teams: a Goth couple, three dating couple teams, a father-daughter team, girlfriends, a
brother-sister team, best friends, sisters and a female married ministers team.
"The sparks will undoubtedly fly along the course of the race as Donald is never shy about telling his grandson what to do," CBS writes. "While Nicolas relies on his ability to read maps and quickly navigate computers, Donald relies on old school street smarts and claims to be a jack of all trades."
The first episode of "Amazing Race 12" airs tonight, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. on CBS Channel 58.
