Grand Geneva Resort and Spa and the Walworth County Deputy Sheriff's Association have teamed up this year to help children in need of a little holiday spirit.
As the AAA Four Diamond resort prepares for its annual "Illuminations Ceremony," area residents are requested to bring a new, unwrapped toy or article of clothing (from infant to 18 years of age) to the resort, where they will enjoy holiday cookies and hot apple cider, enjoy a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus and view a Grand fireworks display.
Illumination festivities start at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 19, and serve as the kickoff to Grand Geneva's six-week - long Christmas in the Country celebration of light and entertainment. The holiday sights, sounds and uplifting spirits are sure to rekindle memories from your childhood as more than a half million lights are illuminated during the ceremonies.
In addition, Grand Geneva Resort and Spa will partner once again with the Walworth County Deputy Sheriff Association, in support of Walworth County Social Services, by collecting toys and clothing for underprivileged children. There will also be a raffle with all proceeds going to the Toys for Kids fund.
"The holiday season is a time for celebrating with friends and family," Kevin Gallagher, general manager for Grand Geneva was quoted as saying in a news release. "But there are many children who are less fortunate and truly benefit from programs such as the Walworth County Deputy Sheriff's annual toy drive. It is our pleasure and privilege to be able to play a role in support of such a wonderful program."
Running Nov. 19- Dec. 30, Christmas in the Country is a six-week celebration of lights and entertainment and serves as one of the Midwest's most spectacular and traditional holiday festivals.
Christmas in the Country brings thousands of area residents and visitors to the resort to enjoy holiday lights, music, festive food and family fun. The celebration includes more than half a million lights and interactive displays throughout the resort.
