Celebrity chef hosts cooking class at Grand Geneva

Class, wine tasting and dinner Nov. 4

Food lovers are in for a rare treat as famed chef Tony Mantuano of Chicago's acclaimed Spiaggia restaurant will host an afternoon cooking class and luncheon, while later creating a five-course dinner menu that promises to serve as a culinary treat for the most dedicated epicurean on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the Grand Geneva Resort & Spa in Lake Geneva.

Mantuano will be joined by Grand Geneva Chefs Robert Fedorko and Rick Starr, along with Italian culinary expert Mario Rizzotti of the renowned Academia Barilla School in Parma, Italy, who also serves as judge this season on the Food Network's popular Iron Chef America TV program.

Lara Postiglione, owner of La Mozzarella, famous for its original Bufala mozzarella, will round out this group of culinary specialists who will offer their cooking secrets, samplings and knowledge on genuine products of Italy and Italian culinary advice.

According to a news release, two programs will be offered throughout the day and include an 11 a.m.-2 p.m. interactive and high-energy Team Cooking Class featuring the preparation of a classic three-course Italian luncheon.

Keeping it simple yet entertaining, Mantuano will provide a one-of-a-kind culinary lesson with wine samplings and signed copy of his "Spiaggia Cookbook: Eleganza Italiana in Cucina."

Cost is $95 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

The second program will begin with an hour-long reception featuring fine wines, olive oil, cheese tastings and the rare opportunity to chat one on one with Mantuano, Rizzotti and Postiglione. Moving into Grand Geneva's award-winning Ristorante Brissago, participants will then enjoy a five-course Italian dinner created by Mantuano, prepared by the Brissago chefs and a fine selection of wine pairings.

Cost for the reception and dinner session is $100 per person, plus tax and gratuity.

Tony Mantuano, Spiaggia's four-star chef who is known not only in Chicago, but also across the country as a culinary force to be reckoned with. Over the last two decades, Mantuano has been thrilling Windy City diners with the most delicious Italian and Mediterranean fare to be enjoyed this side of Sardinia.

Chef Mantuano has appeared nationally on CNN, PBS and the Food Network, and is a regular contributor to the local CBS, NBC, ABC, CW and FOX affiliates in Chicago, and has been a guest on popular syndicated food talk shows such as the Frank DeCaro Show and Food Talk with Rocco DiSpirito.

He can be found coast-to-coast leading cooking classes and demonstrations - from DeGustibus at Macy's in New York's Herald Square to San Francisco's popular Ferry Market. He also serves on the Freschetta Culinary Council with four other leading U.S. chefs.
