Dear WC,

I am an elderly woman who lives independently and I am looking for possible assistance.

This past winter I fell behind in my utilities and I have been trying to catch up ever since. I have been pleading with the utility companies to not turn off the gas and electricity. At this point in time, I am afraid that I am going to find myself living without heat and walking around in the dark.

I do not know what to do.

Since I don't have any food in my freezer I have turned off the freezer compartment in order to reduce my electric bill. I use minimal lights and I do not have air conditioning. It would be nice to get to meet you and maybe you will have some ideas on how I can make ends meet.

An elderly neighbor

Dear Readers,

I met a very pleasant lady in her 80s who is still strong and living independently. She has no children or relatives to turn to for help.

It is sad how many of the elderly are neglected by their families that can't be bothered to help care for them. It could be as simple as taking out the trash or picking up a necessary item or prescription from the store for them. These few small things can mean so much to a senior who no longer drives or has the mobility they used to. I applaud those who keep close to their elderly family members. It is our duty to honor, protect and care for them.

When I arrived at our second meeting I could see that this woman had been crying. When I asked her why her eyes were red and puffy-as I have heard many other times-she answered, "I am so happy that I have been given such kindness, care and compassion from people I never knew, from so many whom I have not met that made donations to help me. I cannot say how comforting it is not to have that hopeless, helpless feeling of being alone anymore. I always wondered what it was like for other elderly people who are being loved and cared for and here I was alone with the fear and realization of not having anyone. Now I have so many people from The Time Is Now who think of and care about me."

"Then why the tears? Why the sadness?" I asked.

"These tears are from memories of my old pain and from the happiness I feel over the relief given to me by The Time Is Now," she said.

Together we have networked with others to help this wonderful lady and once again I thank all of you for your caring and sharing that brought happiness and peace of mind for this woman.

Please continue to care and share.

Health and happiness,

God bless one and all,
