(Published August 8, 2007, 4:05 p.m.)

An Elkhorn man who died July 16 in the Waukesha County Huber had heart disease, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, which cited reports of the Waukesha County Medical Examiner's office.

Kevin W. Welch, 40, died in his sleep after returning from work as a bartender about 3:30 a.m., according to the newspaper. He was serving a 300-day sentence for a fourth offense drunk driving conviction.

Corrections officers noticed nothing wrong with him when he checked into the facility, but Welch did report feeling "a little sick or he felt a little sick to his stomach," the paper reported.

A corrections officer conducting a walkthrough at 9:53 a.m. noticed Welch had an unusual color and appeared not to be breathing. Paramedics arrived three minutes later and determined they could not do anything to save Welch, according to the paper.
