Get rid of old paint, household cleaners, fuel, fertilizers and even illegal drugs at Walworth County's upcoming Clean Sweep.

Mark your calendars for the following dates, times and locations:

:: 3-6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21 at the city of Delavan municipal garage, 490 Richmond Road.

:: 8 a.m. till noon, Saturday, Sept. 22 at the Walworth County Public Works Department, W4097 County Road NN, Elkhorn.

Products labeled caustic, acid, flammable, danger, warning or poison contain hazardous substances and may be disposed of at either location. Examples include pesticides, herbicides, solvents, thinners, preservatives, brake fluid, fuel oil, waste oil, antifreeze, paint and cleaners.

The program will also have a pharmaceutical collection site for the disposal of outdated or unwanted prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and illegal drugs. Products should be left in their original containers with the name and strength of the medication listed. A patient's name may be crossed out. Needles, nebulizers, oxygen tanks and radioactive materials will not be accepted.

Clean Sweep services are free to area residents and farmers. However, farmers must pre-register for the program by Sept. 10 by calling (262) 741-3367. A drop-off time will be provided.

Businesses, industries, municipalities, schools and other services providers that generate small quantities of hazardous wastes can utilize the program for a cost. Pre-registration is necessary by Sept. 14. Call (262) 741-3367.

This is the only Clean Sweep offered in Walworth County this year.
