Delavan teen seriously injured in Interstate rollover

(Published July 9, 2007, 3:46 p.m.)

A single car accident briefly closed Interstate 90/39 near Cottage Grove and left a teenager in serious condition at University Hospital in Madison.

At 5:55 p.m. Friday a 1997 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Orlando R. Bustos, 19, of Delavan was traveling north on the Interstate when it left the road and went into the median, veered back on the roadway and then back into the median. It landed on its roof.

The passenger, a 17-year-old Delavan girl, was transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A second passenger and Bustos were transported with less serious injuries.

Further information was not available at press time.

Neither Bustos nor his passengers were wearing seatbelts.

The Interstate was closed for 12 minutes so a medical helicopter could land.

The crash still is under investigation.
