Thinking of buying a home? A free, four-session workshop can help put Walworth County residents on the path to home ownership.
The workshop is planned for July 19, July 26, Aug. 2 and Aug. 9, from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Community Action, 1545 Hobbs Drive, Delavan.
Space is limited so those interested in attending are asked to pre-register by calling (262) 728-8296. Participation is open to anyone in any stage of the home buying process.
Individuals who complete the sessions will receive a certificate, which meets the educational requirements for a variety of loan programs. This certificate will also help the participant meet eligibility requirements for down payment/closing cost assistance programs and helps them to get a discounted home inspection.
Everything from the types of mortgages available, to finding a truly affordable home to negotiating the best price possible will be covered.
Special attention will focus on the role good credit plays in obtaining a home loan.
Participants will also have an opportunity, if they choose, to see their credit reports and credit scores. Information on local grant and loan programs available to Walworth County home buyers will also be available to the participants.
In addition to homeownership programs, Community Action, a 100 percent local, not-for-profit organization, operates a multitude of other programs aimed at preventing and reducing local poverty in Walworth and Rock and counties.
Founded in 1965, Community Action provides child care, women's health care, family resources, at-risk youth programming, teen parent support, affordable housing units, transitional housing, home weatherization and rehab, assistance with a housing crisis, food for area pantries, and shelter for the homeless.
