A young girl riding her bike Monday evening died about an hour after being struck by a vehicle in her apartment complex's parking lot.
The girl, Lexlin Duran Ortiz, 6, of 1363 Elkhorn Road, sustained serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at 8:06 p.m. at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn.
The suspected driver of the striking vehicle, Teresa Varela-Merino, 29, 1016 Grant St., fled from the scene, but was apprehended a short time later in a nearby apartment, according to Lake Geneva police.
Varela-Merino is currently at the Walworth County Jail awaiting a potential charge of hit-and-run causing death, said Lt. Michael Reuss. He bail hearing was scheduled this afternoon.
