Wisconsin Treasurer Dawn Marie Sass will continue her "County Courthouse Tour" on Wednesday, May 30, by visiting the Walworth County Government Center (100 W. Walworth St., Elkhorn) from 1-3 p.m.
Sass will meet with each county treasurer on her tour as well as provide information to citizens about various programs provided by the Treasurer's office.
Sass will bring the Unclaimed Property Database so citizens can search the database to determine if they have unclaimed property owed to them. Currently, there are 12,876 people with $2.9 million owed to them in Walworth County alone. Citizens can fill out a claim onsite if they choose.
State laws require the state Treasurer's Office to safeguard unclaimed money, stock and safe deposit boxes after one to five years of inactivity by Wisconsin businesses. There is no time limit to collecting unclaimed property.
The state has approximately $281 million unclaimed dollars and $58 million in stock assets that belong to about 900,000 citizens and businesses.
