Sunday morning crash kills Delavan woman

(Published April 30, 2007, 3:00 p.m.)

A 20-year-old Delavan woman was killed Sunday morning when a car she was riding in slammed into a tree at South Shore Drive and Bailey Road.

Courtney C. Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:05 a.m., about 50 minutes after the accident, said Deputy Coroner Ron Wilson.

The driver of the vehicle, Mark A. Friesema, 21, Delavan, was flown from Mercy Walworth Hospital and Medical Center to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, Wilson said. His condition was not available this morning.

It appears Friesema was eastbound on South Shore Drive when he lost control the vehicle, which struck a tree near the intersection with Bailey Road, Wilson said. The passenger side of the older-model Mercedes took the brunt of the impact, Wilson said.

Speed may have been a contributing factor to the 6:18 a.m. crash, Wilson said.
Town of Delavan police are still investigating.
