Waelti runs for a second term on Walworth County Board

This announcement arrived in the newsroom today, Monday, Dec. 5:

Jerry Waelti, 115 Spring Drive, Delavan, announced his plans to run for a second term as a Walworth County Board of Supervisor, District 18. District 18 includes wards 1,2, 3 and 4 in the city of Delavan and wards 2 and 3 in the town of Darien.

The general election is Tuesday, April 4, 2006.

Waelti has a B.S. degree from UW-Platteville in civil engineering and a M.S. from UW-Madison in transportation engineering. He is a registered professional engineer and a licensed land surveyor.

He worked for 18 years for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation in planning, design, and construction and maintenance of the Wisconsin transportation system. He served as the Walworth County highway commissioner for seven years and for 17 years as the executive vice president of the Wisconsin Asphalt Pavement Association.

After his retirement in 2003, Waelti successfully ran for a position on the Walworth County Board of Supervisors. He is currently on the Walworth County Lakeland School Board and vice-chairman of the County Finance Committee.

Waelti worked with the city of Delavan and Walworth County to secure federal funding to upgrade the 911 radio system in the city. The system is currently used as a back-up for the Walworth County sheriff's department.

Waelti was the lead supervisor on elevating the citizen's advisory county parks board to a full fledged county board committee. Through Waelti's leadership the committee now consists of county board supervisors and citizen members that supervise the county parks facilities.
In a news release, Waelti was quoted as saying, "I would like to continue in my role as a county board supervisor to help in planning for the responsible fiscal and educational operation of Lakeland School for the special needs children in Walworth County. I am looking forward to the challenges of the County Finance Committee in working on the future county budgets with the best interests of the county taxpayer in mind."

Waelti is the newly elected president of the Walworth County Economic Development Alliance. The alliance was created to encourage economic growth and development in Walworth County.
