Elkhorn woman wins photography prize

Stephanie Chapman's photo from

Elkhorn photographer Stephanie Chapman was a merit award winner in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's annual photography contest.

Her entry, "Grandma's Hands," shows the hands of Dorothy Kerkman, the grandmother of Chapman's husband, Jon.

Kerkman raised chickens on her New Munster farm for decades, but now, Chapman told the Journal Sentinel, "The winters are too tough." The photo shows Kerkman gently cradling one of her last chicks.
